Health care professionals are under incredible stress—increasing clinical loads, decreasing budgets, transformational changes in care delivery, and more. Burnout rates were drawing national attention even before the COVID-19 Pandemic began and have enhanced those concerns ever since. Self-awareness, reflection, and expression of health care professional stress is critical. The humanities offer the opportunity for artistic expression of the deep meaning in our work, a broader exploration of the drivers of stress in the healthcare environment, and an opportunity to share these insights with others. Many previous studies have shown the utility in artistic expression or artistic appreciation events in tying professional wellness and humanities together. Interprofessional education (IPE) offers an opportunity to bring these events outside of professional silos and allow for learning about, from, and with each other. This tripartite integration of professional wellness, healthcare humanities, and interprofessional education led to an Office of IPE’s creation and implementation of an annual Art from the Heart event where students, faculty, and employees were invited to showcase their artwork in a collaboration the state’s Museum of Fine Arts (MFA). The first event was presented live at the MFA. The transition to virtual in years 2 and 3, due to the Pandemic, resulted in an online format where categories of artwork were presented together each followed by facilitated discussion. Results of the three years show widespread interprofessional participation including submissions from across level of learner and across colleges/departments in the current workforce. In Year 3 many submissions reflected on the prolonged Pandemic as themes unlike Year 1 (pre-Pandemic) and Year 2 (early in the Pandemic). Qualitative data will also be reviewed. Key successes in the creation and implementation of this annual event, lessons learned, and future directions for program development will be highlighted during active Q/A discussion.
