The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted nearly every component of health professions education including professional development opportunities for interprofessional educators. In this session, participants can learn how faculty and staff at one academic medical center maintained existing programming and created new professional development opportunities for educators in virtual formats. Professional development opportunities included a monthly education grand rounds, two 12 month-long teaching certificate programs, social events, and a short-course for educators facilitating interprofessional education in clinical settings. The presenters will briefly describe each of these educational activities then share lessons learned from their own experiences as program planners, implementers, and evaluators. Formal and informal outcomes of program implementation and evaluation will also be shared. Using the outcomes from virtual faculty development and learner centered activities, the presenters will identify models of hybrid professional development programming. As educators adapt to new models of in-person and virtual work, opportunities as well as unexpected challenges that can influence team development, morale, and collaboration should be anticipated. Guiding questions and discussion with participants will stimulate shared ideas on how to turn challenges into opportunities and opportunities into innovations as interprofessional educators transition into the “new normal” post-pandemic.
