Alyssa Farrell, MS OTR/L is an assistant professor at St. Catherine University in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program and currently serves as the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator. Alyssa has worked in a variety of clinical settings including acute rehab, outpatient pediatrics, subacute rehab as well as a specialization in rehabilitation in acute care ICUs. Alyssa’s scholarship interests include emotional intelligence and its relationship to successful fieldwork completion as well as the use of simulation in OT education.

In preparation to become a healthcare professional, clinical experiences are one of the most crucial aspects of translating didactic coursework into clinical practice (Brown et al., 2016). It is recognized that students with integrated emotional intelligence (EI) are identified as performing higher at providing individualized, meaningful, and culturally sensitive care (Mckenna and Mellson, 2013).
