Andres Viles is a proud US Army veteran and Simulation Coordinator Senior/Director of Immersive Simulation in the Office of Inter-professional Simulation for Innovative Clinical Practice and UAB Clinical Simulation. Andres has extensive experience in emergency nursing, geriatrics, biosafety response and healthcare simulation. He completing the Masters of Science in Nursing program at UAB and has been active in simulation since 2009. He completed the Harvard Institute for Medical Simulation Instructor and Advanced Instructor Courses. Andres is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) and TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer. Teamwork/communication, biosafety/emergency preparedness, interprofessional simulation, and resuscitation outcomes are his areas of interest.

BackgroundProviding resuscitation for cardiac arrest patients in the setting of a global pandemic is challenging and requires those responding to balance the immediate needs of the patient with their own safety. The aim of this collaborative was to identify best practices given the information available at the time, develop a safe process for providing resuscitative care for suspected/confirmed COVID-19 patients, test the process using immersive simulation, and disseminate information at a systems level.
