Beth Marks, PhD, RN, FAAN is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Disability and Human Development, UIC, University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and Past President of the National Organization of Nurses with Disabilities. She directs research programs related to the empowerment and advancement of persons with disabilities through health promotion and primary health care. Dr. Marks co-produced a documentary entitled Open the Door, Get 'Em a Locker: Educating Nursing Students with Disabilities and co-authored the Health Matters: The Exercise and Nutrition Health Education Curriculum for People with Developmental Disabilities.

Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) experience health disparities and inadequate healthcare due partially to lack of knowledge about IDD among healthcare professionals.
