Corissa Lotta is a Counseling Psychologist who has been teaching about interprofessional communication skills for over twenty years. She has a primary appointment in the Department of Counseling Psychology at UW-Madison, where she teaches graduate and undergraduate students (including developing an undergraduate course in Clinical Communication). She also teaches about clinical communication in the School of Veterinary Medicine. She has further enjoyed contributing to the communication curriculum at UW Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education (UW CIPE).

In healthcare communication, we often focus on the one-on-one relationships between patients and clinicians. Healthcare, however, is a team endeavor with many players and relationships. Clinical and social healthcare professionals learn their crafts in separate programs with sometimes very different training methods and philosophies. However, there is more overlap than differences when it comes to communication skills.
