Dr. David Ojeda Díaz received his DDS in Caracas, Venezuela, in 2008. He then entered a combined program in Oral Surgery & Pathology at Xaverian University in Bogota, Colombia. He later worked in private practice and in the Venezuelan Academy of Oral Medicine. In 2014 he began a one-year Oral Medicine & Orofacial Pain fellowship at the New York University and later completed a 2-year residency program in Oral Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. David Ojeda is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine and is faculty at UT Health San Antonio, School of Dentistry.

Effective interprofessional education (IPE) is an opportunity to connect education to new models of healthcare. Increasing the scope of practice of medicine/dentistry, while increasing interactions, are proposed strategies to improve patients’ access and quality of care. In this Lightning Talk, we will describe the longitudinal expansion of preclinical IPE spanning the classroom/clinical learning environment in the clinical skills course and discuss the results from the first year of this expansion.
