Mx. Byler is a third year pharmacy student with a focus on patient-centered care in interprofessional environments. They completed a Master of Science in Chemistry at the University of Alabama in Huntsville with thesis work involving in vivo and in vitro synthesis of tRNA-Ala for use in elucidating the protein structure of the binding site of peptidyl-tRNA hydrolase I, a novel antibacterial target. Mx. Byler has a passion for drug development, particularly in the area of psychiatric medicine and substance use disorder.

Background: Vaccinations prevent almost 6 million deaths worldwide and reduce the incidence of several cancers. The Vanderbilt Maternal Addiction Recovery Program (VMARP) serves antepartum and postpartum women with substance use disorder, primarily opioid use disorder. Data collected from this clinic in 2021 suggests that these patients have low vaccination rates, with fewer than 50% of surveyed patients having received common vaccinations.
