Dr. Annan-Coultas directs interprofessional and teamwork education and training at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Annan’s background is in the area of education and instructional technology, and her teaching and research interests include teaching innovations, interprofessional education, interprofessional collaborations in the study of effective teaching, and effective faculty development.

As the COVID-19 pandemic spread through South Carolina, a need for widespread testing sites emerged. This collaborative project brought together an interprofessional cohort of students and professors from Clemson University and the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) to develop criteria for COVID-19 testing sites based on greatest need. The Maralynne D. Mitcham Interprofessional Fellowship (Fellowship), supported by the Office of Interprofessional Initiatives at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), was established in 2012 and honors Dr. Mitcham’s innovative work with interprofessional (IP) education and faculty mentoring. Every January since 2006 at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), first and second-year students come together to participate in an annual event called Interprofessional Day, designed to further develop a culture of collaborative teamwork and improve patient care and safety. Typically, students break into 70 - 80 pre-assigned interprofessional student groups that meet in locations across campus.
