Elisabeth Offenberger, MS, RD, LDN, CDCES is a nutritionist at Codman Square Health Center in Boston. She completed her internship and graduate degree at Simmons College in Boston. During this time, she started working as a cooking class instructor in the community and adapting cooking class curricula for Daily Table, a nonprofit grocery store. After completing her education, she started as a nutritionist at Codman Square Health Center where she is involved with providing nutrition visits as a part of primary care visits across the health center. In 2018, the Boston University Community Health Alliance of Medical Professionals (CHAMPs) program expanded to Codman, and Elisabeth joined the on-site interdisciplinary team as the nutrition preceptor through the end of the program in 2021.

Societal focus on personal responsibility for obesity has been shown to contribute to negative attitudes about people with obesity among healthcare providers and internalized weight bias among patients. Consequences of weight stigma include social isolation, stress, negative health behaviors and less frequent medical care. An interprofessional approach is needed to address the complexity of obesity in a way that decreases stigma and promotes physical and emotional wellbeing.
