Judie McCoyd is Associate Professor at Rutgers University's School of Social Work. Her research lies at the intersection of health care and bereavement. Her clinical work is with “end of life at both ends of life.” She explores the decisions to use prenatal diagnostic technologies, the experience of high risk pregnancy, whether to continue a pregnancy affected by fetal anomalies, and the emotional responses to these events while also being involved in interprofessional education and practice. She is a licensed clinical social worker who maintains a small clinical practice and teaches in the Masters, PhD and DSW programs.

The majority of health outcomes are due to factors such as housing, income, poverty, and racism, referred to as social determinants of health (SDOH). Virtual interprofessional education (V-IPE) student experiences are time-constrained, with most focusing on objective criteria and evidence-based practice (known as an “etic” approach), while not teaching an “emic,” patient-centered approach of understanding health issues from the patient’s perspective. Cooper Medical School of Rowan University has historically collaborated with Rutgers University Schools of Social Work, Nursing and Law to provide interprofessional education. The pandemic provided a challenge as well as an opportunity for collaboration with Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, University of the Sciences, to create a virtual interprofessional experience for learners at various levels of education. This experience was developed to introduce interprofessional education (IPE) concepts early in healthcare education.
