Karen J. Saewert, PhD, RN, CPHQ, ANEF is a Clinical Professor, Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University. Dr. Saewert is the appointed Edson Liaison to the ASU Office of Interprofessional Continuing Health Education (OICHE), Office of the University Provost where she is a founding and current member of the OICHE Executive Committee and Advisory Council. OICHE is fully accredited by the Joint Accreditation™ for Interprofessional Continuing Education (JAICE) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. She currently mentors Barret Honors students conducting interprofessionally oriented thesis projects as a Barret Honors Faculty, ASU Honors College; and designed and teaches Edson's graduate online course: NUR 523 Interprofessional Collaboration for Improving Patient Safety and Health Care Quality Outcomes.
Dr. Saewert's work focuses on advancing best practices in assessment/evaluation; teaching/learning excellence; program evaluation; quality assessment; curricular innovation design; and interprofessional health professions education and practice emphasizing teamwork, quality/safety, and person-centered care. She champions leadership and quality-focused initiatives and has published an emergent conceptualization of competencies essential for nurses and health professionals to lead interprofessionally (#leadinterprofessionally).
Dr. Saewert served as the Founding Evaluation Lead, ASU Center for the Advancement of Interprofessional Practice, Education and Research (CAIPER). Dr. Saewert led evaluation efforts within the Arizona Nexus, a pioneer member of the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education (NCIPE) Nexus Innovations Network and was Co-PI for the Accelerating Interprofessional Community-Based Education and Practice NCIPE grant.
She is a member of the American Interprofessional Health Collaborative, Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), fellow of the NLN Academy of Nursing Education (ANEF), and Program Accreditation on-Site Evaluator, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN).

The Student Health Outreach for Wellness (SHOW) tri-university initiative was formed in 2013 as a student-led volunteer program to deliver interprofessional (IP), team-based care to community-based vulnerable populations. Since its inception, SHOW attracted graduate and undergraduate students - numbering over 200 per year - from over 10 academic disciplines. However, this magnitude of students overwhelmed the initiative's philanthropic supported operations, prompting needed change for sustainability.
