Dr. Karpa is a professor in the Department of Pharmacology. She is Assistant Dean of Interprofessional Education and Director of the Penn State College of Medicine’s Office of Interprofessional Collaborative Education and Teamwork. In her role, she develops, coordinates, and implements IPE initiatives for Penn State College of Medicine. She is a Josiah Macy Faculty Scholar and recognized as a Distinguished Educator by colleagues at Penn State. She is passionate about building bridges across professions and bringing interprofessional learners together in a variety of learning environments.

Just prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, faculty and students at Pennsylvania State university had begun piloting an Interprofessional Teaching Clinic (IPTC) Consult Service. On account of the pandemic, the IPTC abruptly transitioned from in-person encounters to operating remotely using a telehealth model. Patients “seen” at the IPTC are referred by their primary care physicians (PCP) due to belief that these patients would benefit from an interprofessional consultation.
