Student Health Outreach for Wellness (SHOW) Community Initiative - Arizona State University
Liz Harrell, DNP, is the Director of the Student Health Outreach for Wellness (SHOW) and the ASU Faculty Lead for the Refugee Education and Clinic Team (REACT). In both programs, she supports students’ engagement and exploration of social justice, health outcomes, and team-based care in vulnerable communities. Dr. Harrell’s career spans over 28 years. Her experience as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in community-based settings, and the translation of interprofessional education into practice, leads students towards becoming culturally competent, socially aware practitioners. Currently, Dr. Harrell is the Associate Director of Interprofessional Practice & Community Engagement in the Center for Advancing Interprofessional Practice, Education, and Research (CAIPER) at Arizona State University.

The Student Health Outreach for Wellness (SHOW) tri-university initiative was formed in 2013 as a student-led volunteer program to deliver interprofessional (IP), team-based care to community-based vulnerable populations. Since its inception, SHOW attracted graduate and undergraduate students - numbering over 200 per year - from over 10 academic disciplines. However, this magnitude of students overwhelmed the initiative's philanthropic supported operations, prompting needed change for sustainability.
