Associate Professor Lorinda L. Coan, RDH, MS teaches dental hygiene at the University of Southern Indiana (USI). She has an AS in Dental Hygiene from Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD), a BS in Health Sciences Education and earned a MS in Adult Education. She taught at IUSD from 1993 until 2013, relocating to USI. She’s course director (for 5 courses) and is in clinical rotations. She coordinates experiences with students for IPE with students in BSN, OT, NP programs. She provides oral health education to health professional students in several of the baccalaureate and graduate programs at the University.

• Educating future professionals in interprofessional principles are standard in medical and dental, as well as allied-medical and dental education. In developing the initial pilot curriculum in the Nurse Practitioner Residency (NPR) program, it was observed that a gap in the area of oral health existed. Presenters will share the development of curricular materials that resulted in resident’s increased knowledge and confidence in interacting with patients and other disciplines regarding oral health.
