Dr. Maloney is an Assistant Professor in The University of Toledo Occupational Therapy Doctoral Program. Dr. Maloney has practiced and taught occupational therapy for over two decades. As a clinician, she worked primarily in behavioural health, wellness promotion, and drug and alcohol addiction. Her research has included investigations into the health and wellness challenges of First Responders; the meaning and purpose of vaping for university students; the health benefits of music making for transgender individuals; university student mental health and substance abuse; student time use patterns; health benefits of serious leisure pursuits; interprofessional education (IPE) programming; and community-based service-learning.

Addressing the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) has been shown to improve patient outcomes while decreasing healthcare costs, both of which contribute to WHO’s Quadruple Aim. Interprofessional education (IPE) is a critical component in the learning process for healthcare professionals to be prepared to address clients’ unmet SDOH needs.
