Dr. Margaret Brommelsiek is an Associate Research Professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She conducts ethnographic research along with an interdisciplinary team of surgeons, social scientists, nurses, musicians, and engineers bringing the lens of an artist for finding meaning in patterns of behavior and non-verbal cues to improve quality and safety in the operating room. A faculty mentor to graduate and undergraduate medical and nursing students, Dr. Brommelsiek guides students in conducting qualitative studies to improve patient care. Her artistic work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions and acquired by regional and national museum and research libraries.

Despite common use in patient care, interprofessional practice is less utilized in health professions education (HPE) research. Using art, music, and other humanities disciplines coupled with academic disciplines in the sciences, interprofessional practice in HPE is an innovative means for exploring new avenues for investigating and presenting science data.
