Dr. Marty Sexton serves as the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Interim Director of the Learning Resource Center, Simulation, and Interprofessional Education in the College of Nursing (CON). Dr. Sexton has been a leader in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the University’s Interprofessional Education Program (IPE). She is active in the American Interprofessional Health Collaborative (AIHC) and National Academies of Practice (NAP) serving in leadership roles in both organizations. Dr. Sexton has published and presented with colleagues on topics such as: interprofessional education pedagogy, interprofessional conflict resolution, emergent evacuation techniques, and active shooter awareness.

Addressing the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) has been shown to improve patient outcomes while decreasing healthcare costs, both of which contribute to WHO’s Quadruple Aim. Interprofessional education (IPE) is a critical component in the learning process for healthcare professionals to be prepared to address clients’ unmet SDOH needs.
