Mary Keehn is a physical therapist and the Director of Interprofessional Practice and Education and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs in the College of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). In these roles she works with faculty, students, and staff across all the health science colleges, the health care delivery system, and other campus units to implement curriculum for pre-qualification learners and practicing health professionals aimed at developing competency in interprofessional collaborative practice that leads to achievement of Quadruple Aim outcomes. Her research focus is the development of a conceptual framework for interprofessional collaborative practice. Over a 40 year career as a Physical Therapist including roles as the Director on Rehabilitation Services and faculty member in a physical therapist education program at UIC, Dr. Keehn developed a broad and deep understanding of the differences in learning experiences and practice experiences of different professions and developed a particular curiosity about how patients understand their interactions with different professions. This continues to be the driving force for all of her professional activities - How do patients understand their role in the health care team and their impact on outcomes and how can we as health professionals respect that role and maximize the positive influence of a patient's particiaption on outcomes?.
