Micayla Jones is a third year medical student at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, NC. As an undergraduate at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with minors in American Sign Language/Deaf Studies and Chemistry. She has participated in many service projects and mission trips and is passionate about providing for underserved urban communities in an interdisciplinary fashion as a future physician and patient advocate.

Background: Many patients at the University of North Carolina Adams School of Dentistry present with complex and often undiagnosed medical needs. Twenty-two percent report not visiting a primary care provider within 2 years and 55% have high blood pressure. Uncontrolled hypertension can create significant barriers to dental care, increasing the risk of poor oral-systemic health.
