Monica Perlmutter, OTD, OTR/L, SCLV, FAOTA, is an associate professor at the Washington University Program in Occupational Therapy and Department of Ophthalmology where she has clinical, teaching, and research responsibilities. She has developed and taught interprofessional curriculum, and served as steering committee member for the Center for Interprofessional Education. Her clinical practice focus is with adults with vision impairment; research efforts include determining the visual function and quality of life of persons with glaucoma, development of a home lighting assessment and low vision self-management program, and identifying driving errors and compensatory strategies in persons with glaucoma.

Background The Interprofessional Standardized Patient Team Experience (SPTE) involves students and faculty from midwestern medical, occupational therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, and nursing programs. The SPTE occurs three times during the academic year and provides the opportunity for teams comprising a mix of interprofessional students to develop a discharge plan for a standardized patient scenario.
