Nicole McKenzie is a Registered Respiratory Therapist with 6 years of clinical experience and an additional 9 years of teaching experience within respiratory care. She received her Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care from The University of Toledo, Master of Health Administration from Ohio University, and Doctor of Philosophy in Health Education from The University of Toledo. Dr. McKenzie is the Program Director for the University of Toledo Respiratory Care Program. Her research interests include simulation, gaming in the classroom, interprofessional education, hospital-based disaster preparedness, and vaping.

Addressing the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) has been shown to improve patient outcomes while decreasing healthcare costs, both of which contribute to WHO’s Quadruple Aim. Interprofessional education (IPE) is a critical component in the learning process for healthcare professionals to be prepared to address clients’ unmet SDOH needs.
