Paul O’Neil is an ambulatory physical therapist for Duke University Hospital. He works in an outpatient clinic in Durham, North Carolina where he specializes in treating patients with orthopedic injuries. He obtained his Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh, and received a further Orthopedic Clinical Specialist designation from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Paul is actively involved in educating future healthcare professionals as a clinical instructor for physical therapy students and working with the Interprofessional Education Clinic where healthcare students are able to observe him performing physical therapy evaluations and treatments.

The Duke Interprofessional Education (IPE) Experience provides professional students the opportunity to participate in interprofessional clinical activities. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a novel pilot was developed to allow medical students to attend physical therapy sessions utilizing a hybrid virtual model. Students observed physical therapy sessions and discussed the session with the physical therapist and a faculty physician.In spring 2021, a novel pilot allowed medical students to voluntarily participate in physical therapy sessions.
