Rachel Reynolds is a registered dietitian (RDN) with a Master’s in Nutrition from BU Sargent College for Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. Assistant Director/Senior Nutritionist at BU’s Sargent Choice Nutrition Center, she co-leads with the director a team of RDNs in providing evidence-based nutrition services. Her clinical interests include behavior change and health promotion for individuals with varying nutrition-related concerns including weight-related concerns, cardiovascular risk factor management, eating disorders, and other chronic conditions. As nutrition preceptor for the Community Health Alliance of Medical Professionals, Rachel works with a group of interprofessional trainees and providers to facilitate collaborative learning, effective team building, and patient-centered care.

Societal focus on personal responsibility for obesity has been shown to contribute to negative attitudes about people with obesity among healthcare providers and internalized weight bias among patients. Consequences of weight stigma include social isolation, stress, negative health behaviors and less frequent medical care. An interprofessional approach is needed to address the complexity of obesity in a way that decreases stigma and promotes physical and emotional wellbeing.
