Rebekah Sculley, Registered Dental Hygienist, is a clinical instructor in the department of periodontics at UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry, where she currently serves on the Interprofessional Education Task Force. Rebekah has over twenty years of experience providing oral health care services and preventive disease education to communities across South Texas. Throughout her career, Rebekah has treated and educated patients in private dental practices as well as public health centers. As a proponent for interprofessional collaboration, Rebekah has a passion for teaching students across a variety of disciplines; including dental, nursing, occupational therapy, and medical.

Effective communication with patients and other health professionals is paramount. Unfortunately, today’s students remain under-trained in health literacy communication. The importance of health literacy, combined with increasing accreditation expectations for interprofessional communication, affords a rich opportunity for interprofessional education (IPE).
