Ryan Lewis is a Clinical Instructor at the UNC School of Nursing. He has been a registered nurse since 2008, practicing in many areas within the hospital including adult critical care and medical stepdown. At UNC School of Nursing, he has taught across the undergraduate nursing curriculum, including both lab, clinical, and didactic courses. A strong advocate for professional engagement and advocacy, he has served on the board of directors for the American Association of Men in Nursing. Currently, he is the Secretary/Treasurer of the North Carolina Nurses Association. He is a 2020-2021 Duke Johnson & Johnson Nurse Leadership Fellow.

Background: Many patients at the University of North Carolina Adams School of Dentistry present with complex and often undiagnosed medical needs. Twenty-two percent report not visiting a primary care provider within 2 years and 55% have high blood pressure. Uncontrolled hypertension can create significant barriers to dental care, increasing the risk of poor oral-systemic health.
