Sarah Liebkemann recently received her Master of Science in Dental Hygiene Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and was an inaugural member of the Interprofessional Education and Practice Distinguished Scholars. She graduated from the UNC baccalaureate dental hygiene program in 2019 as the first student to earn highest honors and distinction. Sarah has served in a variety of leadership roles in organizations relating to interprofessional education. She has received a number of awards, including the Sigma Phi Alpha Excellence in Journalism Award for her research exploring the use of Interactive Virtual Games in dental hygiene curriculum.

Purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic drastically expanded reliance on virtual care in clinical practice, as it offers increased flexibility and expanded access to care, particularly for patients with complex medical needs who are disproportionately impacted by non-medical drivers of health. The COVID-19 pandemic led health systems to increasingly rely on telehealth for patient care. Despite rapidly changing clinical and regulatory environments, most healthcare providers and students were not equipped with formal training in telehealth-specific skills.
