Sarah Zimmerman is a second-year medical student at the University of Michigan Medical School. She served as Director of the Student Run Free Clinic during her first year. She earned a BA in Spanish and Global Public Health: Community Health Education and Promotion from Pitzer College. Prior to medical school, Sarah worked for Christopher House as a community-based doula and childbirth educator for adolescent mothers in Chicago. She then pursued post-baccalaureate studies at Goucher College, where she volunteered with a breast cancer prevention initiative serving the Latinx community.

Background: The University of Michigan Student Run Free Clinic (UMSRFC) is an interprofessional organization dedicated to providing quality, free of charge, healthcare to uninsured community members. The UMSRFC involves collaboration between students in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, public health, and social work programs. The UMSRFC receives phone calls for seven patient-serving teams that must then be promptly sorted to the correct clinical teams to ensure patients’ concerns are appropriately addressed.
