Sean E. Garcia, MD, FHM, is currently a Professor/Clinical of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio. He is medical director of Pride Clinic, a student faculty collaborative clinic in which nursing students and medical students care for the LGBTQ+ population. In the inpatient setting he has worked to promote a model for patient care, collaborative care, in which all members of the medical team round with the patients at the same time. In this interdisciplinary model medical students learn about the contributions of various professionals in the care of patients and also witness the value of teamwork.

Background: The Quality Enhancement Plan at UT Health San Antonio, Linking Interprofessional Networks for Collaboration (LINC), serves as the institutional blueprint for transforming campus-wide interprofessional education (IPE). A key component of this plan includes cultivating knowledge and skills in faculty and staff to increase IPE opportunities for learners. Interprofessional case competitions have been used nationally for many years to advance interprofessional education (IPE). The CLARION competition at the University of Minnesota serves as an exemplary model that has been adopted across the country.
