Dr. Shipra Singh is an Associate Professor in the School of Population Health and the Director of the Health Equity Research Center (HERC) at the University of Toledo. Her research examines the impact of social determinants of health and structural-level fundamental causes of diseases on physical and mental health outcomes among vulnerable populations. In her role as the public health faculty at the School for the Advancement for Interprofessional Education at her institution, she collaborates with an interprofessional team to develop the interprofessional program curriculum and implement diverse learning methodologies to train health professional students.

Addressing the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) has been shown to improve patient outcomes while decreasing healthcare costs, both of which contribute to WHO’s Quadruple Aim. Interprofessional education (IPE) is a critical component in the learning process for healthcare professionals to be prepared to address clients’ unmet SDOH needs.
