Sonal Batra, MD, MST is a physician and assistant professor in the George Washington University's (GW) Department of Emergency Medicine and Department of Health Policy and Management. Her primary areas of interest are health professions education, health workforce equity, and social mission. Dr. Batra previously served as a founding board member of the Beyond Flexner Alliance, an organization committed to expanding the role of social mission in health professions education. She earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Pace University, completed medical school at Northwestern University, and completed her emergency medicine residency training at GW.

The Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity conducted an investigation to understand 1) how participating dental, medical, and nursing school leaders of the 2019 Social Mission Metrics Self-Assessment Survey view social mission, and 2) the effects of survey participation on institutional change.
