Valerie Ruehter, PharmD, BCPP is a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of Experiential Learning at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Pharmacy. She oversees the experiential curriculum, coordinates preceptor development, and maintains quality assurance activities for the program. Valerie received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from UMKC. She is board certified in psychiatric pharmacy and an experienced pharmacist, preceptor, and residency director. She teaches ethics and professional communication in the didactic curriculum. She is a leader of the UMKC Interprofessional Education Steering Committee working to design, implement, and assess IPE activities and simulations for UMKC health professions schools.

This interprofessional seminar will describe the design and implementation of a telehealth simulation for medical, pharmacy and physician assistant students utilizing standardized patients. Student teams work collaboratively to interview and assess a patient and review records including lab values and test results; formulate a care plan, communicate the plan to a standardized final year medical student, and provide patient education.
