Dr. Schlesinger received her BA from the University of Chicago. She completed medical school at the University of Minnesota, completed her psychiatry residency in general psychiatry from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and her fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry from Boston Children’s Hospital (Harvard Medical School), Boston, where she was Chief Fellow.
Dr. Schlesinger is a child and adolescent psychiatrist with a focus on consultation-liaison psychiatry, mood and anxiety disorders, and developing new clinical programs for children with coexisting physical and psychiatric illness. Within the department, she is a member of the Advocacy Committee.

Estimates indicate over 95% of children in the United States regularly visit a pediatric provider and primary care is the only health care system attended by the vast majority of children before school enrollment. Approximately 40% of outpatient pediatric visits involve a mental or behavioral health concern. However, pediatric providers often lack training and confidence to diagnose and treat children’s mental health.
