Jane Hook, MN, is a research associate for the Transforming the Primary Care Workforce grant at the Center for Advancing Interprofessional Practice, Education and Research of Arizona State University Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation. She facilitates grant geospatial population health mapping, cross-walking processes and participates in stakeholder focus group qualitative analysis. Her background includes being a clinical nurse specialist, CalState LA School of Nursing Emerita Lecturer and former faculty coordinator of the Patricia A.Chin Nursing Simulation Center. Jane is pursuing a doctorate in Nursing and Healthcare Innovation at ASU studying virtual reality application uses for healthier aging.

Numerous organizations, like NCICLE and ACGME, have advanced our understanding and recognition of optimal interprofessional clinical learning environments (CLEs). Since the advent of the HITECH Act (2009), there has been exponential growth of the electronic health record (EHR). While advances in clinical decision support and limited interoperability have been made, limitations in EHR functionality still exist for clinicians. This is particularly evident for healthcare teams. EHR platforms were designed for individual end-users and lack functionality for active teaming in the clinical arena.
