Joane S. Lisma is currently a part-time professional BSN student at Florida Atlantic University and current member of NSNA (National Student Nurse Association), with a prior Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Rider University, New Jersey. Her professional experiences include; 7 years of banking background with excellent customer service skills, and a compassionate student nurse extern. She is also a 2021 CAPE Scholar: Caring-based Academic Partnerships in Excellence (CAPE) RNs in Primary care, a project supported by the Healh Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Joane enjoys serving her community by engaging in volunteer work. Her transition to nursing will allow her the opportunity to merge her exceptional customer service skills and caring attitude, to positively impact communities and help others, as a future community health nurse.

Presenting at the Nexus Summit:

Two cases were developed based on lived experiences from a multicultural interprofessional faculty team. Students were assigned prereading on microaggressions, use of race correction in clinical algorithms, and racial bias in clinical measures. In a large group session, guidelines for respectful discussion were established. Next, 52 medical students and 88 nursing students were placed in mixed small groups in breakout rooms.
