Kimberly Kascak has a background in academic innovation and online instructional design in the field of education. She has worked collaboratively with interprofessional teams including but not limited to physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, nurse practitioners, families, and educators throughout my career. She is a co-founder of Pattison’s Academy, a non-profit, public charter offering interprofessional education and rehabilitation programs specializing in children with complex healthcare issues. She has developed and coordinated innovative online academic programs with continual ongoing educational support to programs. As a certified TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer, she provides instruction to MUSC students through required interprofessional courses.

During the 2020-2021 academic year, we offered a new interprofessional course, “Emergency Response Management”. The course was extremely popular: 160 students enrolled in the Fall and 100 in the Spring. As facilitators for the course, we developed numerous group activities that appeared to be relevant and what we hoped would be interesting, motivating, and fun. The Maralynne D. Mitcham Interprofessional Fellowship (Fellowship), supported by the Office of Interprofessional Initiatives at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), was established in 2012 and honors Dr. Mitcham’s innovative work with interprofessional (IP) education and faculty mentoring. Every January since 2006 at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), first and second-year students come together to participate in an annual event called Interprofessional Day, designed to further develop a culture of collaborative teamwork and improve patient care and safety. Typically, students break into 70 - 80 pre-assigned interprofessional student groups that meet in locations across campus.
