Dr. Mariette Sourial received her PharmD from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She completed an ambulatory care PGY-1 residency through the University of Minnesota in 2011. In 2011, she joined Palm Beach Atlantic University’s Gregory School of Pharmacy as an assistant professor of pharmacy practice and was later promoted to associate professor, where she teaches various topics in the pharmacotherapy series and coordinates and facilitates in skills-based courses. She currently serves as the director of interprofessional education within the School of Pharmacy and the associate director for the Office of Interprofessional Education and Practice at Florida Atlantic University.

Polypharmacy is a dilemma seen predominantly in older adult patients and patients with chronic, complex illnesses, with complicated medication regimens prescribed by multiple providers. This academic year, Florida Atlantic University’s Office of Interprofessional Education and Practice, with their Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and School of Social Work, and Palm Beach Atlantic University’s School of Pharmacy successfully launched interprofessional videoconferencing sessions with local older adult mentors in a program to promote healthy aging. This program is unique in that it allows the assigned older adult mentor, called a Senior Aging Geriatric Educator (SAGE), to educate each team of students about healthy aging through the lens of interprofessional collaboration.
