Dr. Ferguson is an Assistant Professor in the practice teaching track at the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University. She has been a professional nurse for 24 years, a Primary Care Pediatric nurse practitioner for 15 years, and an academician for 12 years. Her teaching area of expertise is advanced pediatric nursing diagnostic and therapeutics. Dr. Ferguson engages in scholarship in the areas of pediatric mental health, nursing Informatics and technological practice and teaching innovations, and interprofessional collaboration in education and practice.

Presenting at the Nexus Summit:

Two cases were developed based on lived experiences from a multicultural interprofessional faculty team. Students were assigned prereading on microaggressions, use of race correction in clinical algorithms, and racial bias in clinical measures. In a large group session, guidelines for respectful discussion were established. Next, 52 medical students and 88 nursing students were placed in mixed small groups in breakout rooms.
