Dr. Chen is Associate Director for Health Equity, University of Kansas Cancer Center, which oversees the Community Outreach and Engagement Program. He is a clinically active radiation oncologist specializing in prostate cancer, a health services researcher, and a clinical trialist, with extensive experience collaborating with community stakeholders. He serves as Principle Investigator of two open National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN) trials and co-PI and quality of life chair of multiple NCTN trials. His research program and publications focus on cancer comparative effectiveness research, population health, and cancer disparities. In 2019, he was elected into the American Society for Clinical Investigation.
