Dr. Stacy Umscheid is a rural Kansas native and holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Washburn University. Umscheid serves as the Project Director on a Health Resources and Services Administration-funded grant at Washburn University School of Nursing focused on the education and preparation of rural nurse practitioners for practice in medically underserved communities. This grant project also serves to integrate curricular and didactic enhancements as it relates to behavioral health and telehealth for trainees. Umscheid has research and scholarly publication interests involving access to preventive services and chronic disease management in rural and underserved communities.

Presenting at the Nexus Summit:

This pilot study aims to empower chronic disease self-management strategies, foster improved individual and community health outcomes, as well as sustain interprofessional partnerships. Purposeful telehealth applications and re-envisioned clinical and didactic adaptations will enhance the provision of primary care in two at-risk, community-based populations.
