Stephanie de Sam Lazaro, OTD, OTR/L is Associate Professor and Director of Graduate OT at St. Catherine University. Her clinical expertise is in the area of working with children and their families including developmental monitoring and surveillance and anticipatory guidance activities. Her scholarship focuses on inter- and intra-professional teaching and learning and community-engaged learning experiences for healthcare students. This includes practice and scholarship in addressing oral health equity needs for children and families as part of the interprofessional oral health team.

Presenting at the Nexus Summit:

Entry level occupational therapy (OT), occupational therapy assistant, and nursing students participated in two three-hour activities involving pre-simulation work, pre-briefing, simulation activities, and debriefing facilitated by OT and nursing faculty. Activities were developed by faculty to align with the INACSL Standards of Best Practice in Simulation. An electronic health record was utilized by students during their pre-simulation and post-debrief learning activities. The COVID-19 pandemic presented delays and cancellations of clinical and fieldwork experiences in practice settings. To ensure timely continuation of program progression for students, interprofessional simulations for entry level occupational therapy, occupational therapy assistant, and nursing students were developed to meet clinical and fieldwork requirements as outlined by ACOTE (2018) and ACEN (2020).
