IPE INFORM: A Series of IPE Continuing Education Programming
Interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP/IPP) is a concept that is not always present in clinical practice today. Moreover, it is sometimes seen as an intangible concept for faculty members whose training did not include any interprofessional education (IPE). The Campbell University Office of IPE (CUIPE) believes the education of faculty and current practitioners to be integral to optimizing the learning experience for current students: as IPE is gradually added into general health sciences courses and IPCP is incorporated into current clinical practice, the concepts introduced and featured in IPE become more relatable and concrete to students in IPE experiences.
In an effort to further educate faculty members and current practitioners, CUIPE created IPE INFORM (Interprofessional Noontime Forums Online: Renew Your Mind), a year-long series of monthly virtual CE/CME programming focusing on IPE concepts and competencies. IPE INFORM is promoted to current practitioners, preceptors, faculty members, and students. The overall goals of the program are to increase participants’ familiarity with and comprehension of IPE concepts and competencies; to enable practitioners in the regions surrounding Campbell University and beyond; to incorporate IPCP into their clinical practice; and to empower faculty members to integrate IPE concepts into their courses.
The final goal of the program is to increase revenue for the CUIPE office. As a non-traditional office without earnings from tuition or typical fundraising sources, CUIPE continues to consider creative opportunities to raise proceeds. Soon into the creation of IPE INFORM, CUIPE identified it as a potential source of revenue.
The inaugural series of IPE INFORM launched in January 2021. Topics include and have included general IPE concepts and specific areas presented from an interprofessional perspective. All sessions are presented to interprofessional audiences.
Results featured on the poster will include the number of participants overall and an average number of participants at each session; types of professions represented at sessions; highlights from the participant survey, and more.
This poster will describe the background, design and planning process, complete list of topics, results, conclusions, and reflections for the program.
