Jim Ballard is director of the University of Kentucky Center for Interprofessional Health Education and associate professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. He is chair of the American Interprofessional Health Collaborative (AIHC) and a member of the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Expert Panel “Leveraging the IPEC Competency Framework to Transform Health Professions Education.” Dr. Ballard is a graduate in psychology from the University of Notre Dame and received a Masters of Educational Psychology from the University of Kentucky and a Doctorate in Education at Northern Kentucky University with an emphasis on Interprofessional Education.

An overarching goal of social science is to make the familiar strange – to expose what we often take for granted. Utilizing established theories, concepts, and constructs as maps, and particular quantitative and qualitative methodologies as a compass, social scientists (sociologists, psychologists, educators, economists, anthropologists) shed valuable light on not only the if and the what, but more importantly the why and the how of the social world around us.
