Kathryn B. Keller is a Professor of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University and an Associate Director of Interprofessional Education & Practice. She is a TeamSTEPPS master trainer and has completed the Tools to Relationships Coaching Program-Dartmouth Microsystems Academy which have served as foundations for designing interprofessional collaborative practice programs. She has published on IP initiatives, and presented nationally and internationally on team science and communication. She grew up in South Florida and continuously strives for cultural humility.

Two cases were developed based on lived experiences from a multicultural interprofessional faculty team. Students were assigned prereading on microaggressions, use of race correction in clinical algorithms, and racial bias in clinical measures. In a large group session, guidelines for respectful discussion were established. Next, 52 medical students and 88 nursing students were placed in mixed small groups in breakout rooms. This academic year, Florida Atlantic University’s Office of Interprofessional Education and Practice, with their Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and School of Social Work, and Palm Beach Atlantic University’s School of Pharmacy successfully launched interprofessional videoconferencing sessions with local older adult mentors in a program to promote healthy aging. This program is unique in that it allows the assigned older adult mentor, called a Senior Aging Geriatric Educator (SAGE), to educate each team of students about healthy aging through the lens of interprofessional collaboration.
