Terry Eggenberger is the Director of Interprofessional Education and Practice, Office of the Provost at Florida Atlantic University, Associate Professor in the College of Nursing and Clinical Associate Affiliate in the College of Medicine. She has been leading interprofessional (IP) education and practice since 2008 and more recently led initiatives to address the needs of medically underserved, ethnically diverse, vulnerable populations requiring diabetes and mental health telehealth services in South Florida through a NEPQR HRSA grant. She has published on IP initiatives, and presented nationally and internationally on team science and communication.

Two cases were developed based on lived experiences from a multicultural interprofessional faculty team. Students were assigned prereading on microaggressions, use of race correction in clinical algorithms, and racial bias in clinical measures. In a large group session, guidelines for respectful discussion were established. Next, 52 medical students and 88 nursing students were placed in mixed small groups in breakout rooms. This academic year, Florida Atlantic University’s Office of Interprofessional Education and Practice, with their Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and School of Social Work, and Palm Beach Atlantic University’s School of Pharmacy successfully launched interprofessional videoconferencing sessions with local older adult mentors in a program to promote healthy aging. This program is unique in that it allows the assigned older adult mentor, called a Senior Aging Geriatric Educator (SAGE), to educate each team of students about healthy aging through the lens of interprofessional collaboration.
